To paraphrase something I read back when A&E lost the syndication rights to L&O and began showing Murder She Wrote (yes, I really do keep ridiculous things in my head), I know Dick Clarke was in the hospital (hope he gets well soon), and I know they love Regis Philbin (although, I don't really get that either), but re: Ashlee Simpson doing the co-hosting, does ABC just not care anymore?

Contracts for the New Year's Eve show were signed in May or June. Back then, Jessica's little sister seemed like a hot prospect.
Regis is loved by ABC because:
1) He draws viewers;
2) He draws advertisers;
3) He's already under long-term contract.

Ashlee Simpson is already washed up. It's hilarious. I predicted it precisly 2 weeks, 3 days, and 14 hours before it officially happened.
