Village Voice cartoon

Thanks again to The Corner for pointing me to this cartoon from the Village Voice.

I'm posting it because it's funny, and I certainly recognize some of the stereotypes, but I can't resist asking a question: Does anyone know anybody remotely like that woman in the third panel?

Most of the liberals I know simply called F911 "great," or else made excuses for the film's deficiencies. By contrast, I do not have a single conservative friend who takes Limbaugh, Hannity or Coulter seriously.

Hell, maybe it's just me. Maybe it's the circles I hang out in here in the blue states, but I gotta wonder who these VV cartoonists have been talking to.

perhaps the cartoonist who drew that has spent some time in hte midwest (kansas to be specific). that sounds much like the middle of the road liberals and the amped-with-zeal conservatives that seem to populate this area, heh.

Maybe I am misinterpreting, but, in this very comment section, Mal has at least twice favorably referenced the Hannity and the Limbaugh show. In one thread, Mal seemed to chide me as one who doesn't listen to Rush. (I have and still do on occasion.)

That said, I don't recognize myself as one of those self hating liberals, perhaps because I have no regrets regarding the 2004 election. My problem with Michael Moore is not his editorializing; it's that how his playing fast and loose with the facts undercuts his legitimacy. Having personally seen Michael Moore in action, I know him as someone who will purposely shape/change events as they happen to make his points. So it is not his opinions with which I have a problem, it is how he presents his facts.

The Village Voice was originally the home (I believe) of Ted Rall and a whole host of writers/cartoonists who are far to the left of me. One of the techniques of leftists is to try to shame liberals like me by saying we really are leftists but are just too timid to go all the way. What they don't understand is that there are people who simply disagree with them, people who could support social security but be against ongoing welfare, for instance.

The VV has been printing cartoons like this since the paper's inception. It isn't new.

I have indeed done so, PE. I much prefer Limbaugh to Hannity.

However, Limbaugh rarely says anything I have not already either though of on my own or read. I note that he has a tendency to 'borrow' (cough, cough) from others whose ideas I have read within a day or two. Sometimes, he attributes, sometimes he does not.

The point is this: I cannot think of one issue that either Rush or Sean changed my views on.

O'Reilly is an insufferable, pompous ass and Coulter is such a lightweight that she needs a bowling ball lashed to her wrist to keep from flying away.

Just so you know.
