Definitely good news
Looks like we bloggers might be exempt from onerous campaign finance reporting requirements after all.
The House Administration Committee today approved a bill calling for the exemption of certain online communications from rules for reporting campaign finance activity.National Journal's Technology Daily reports that the bill, H.R. 1606, was approved by voice vote. Last November, the full House failed to garner the two-thirds majority necessary to pass the bill under expedited procedures. That 225-182 vote kicked the legislation back to committee.

Yeah, saw that too. Good news. It would really mess us up to have to comply with a whole host of federal regs. On the other hand, you have to wonder when you see sites like Daily Kos and Atrios raising funds for politicians if there shouldn't be some sort of oversight. That could always come as blogger influence increases.
