Speaker Pelosi

Well that didn't take long. Pelosi isn't even Speaker yet and she's already pushing tax hikes and minimum wage increases.

The abysmal state of the Republican congressional leadership has left me no choice but to wish for a Democratic takeover of Congress. Stuff like this, however, is a sobering reminder of how unpleasant that's going to be.

Is Pelosi planning on a coup if she becomes Speaker? All by herself, she's gonna raise taxes? All by themselves, a (likely)narrow Democratic majority in Congress is gonna raise taxes?

Of course, given Bush's lack of veto ability, they may just be able to.

STOP WORRYING ABOUT TAX HIKES! Instead, rejoice that yahoos like Janice Rogers Brown won't be on the Supremest of Courts (just a fun dig at ya, Barry--lover of that lady)

> STOP WORRYING ABOUT TAX HIKES!

I WILL NOT! Can't make me. :P

This sounds a lot better than "Tax and Steal" Chimp's current scheme. We pay taxes now, they just go straight to Halliburton and other cronies.

Bush created the deficit, with his rubber-stamp Repug congress. Absolute Repug rule caused the current deficit, because they "cut and ran" from Afganistan (now under U.N. control) and shifted the tax burden from their criminal rich friends to the working middle class ... boo hoo.

All the days after that: "Pay as you go," meaning no increasing the deficit, whether the issue is middle class tax relief, health care or some other priority.

To do that, she said, Bush-era tax cuts would have to be rolled back for those above "a certain level." She mentioned annual incomes of $250,000 or $300,000 a year and higher, and said tax rates for those individuals might revert to those of the Clinton era. Details will have to be worked out, she emphasized.

"We believe in the marketplace," Pelosi said of Democrats, then drew a contrast with Republicans. "They have only rewarded wealth, not work."

Face the crappy truth, Barry - you wouldn't run your family a gazillion dollars into debt (What, me, too lazy to look up the actual deficit? Nah!) - we shouldn't have done it to our country, either. How many times have you heard me say that tax and spend is always better than borrow and spend?

Now if you can find someone who'll cut spending in a logical way, I'll listen to this talk of no tax hikes.

> Now if you can find someone who'll cut spending in a logical way, I'll listen to this talk of no tax hikes.

Hell, I can't even find someone who'll cut spending in an illogical way. Not on Capitol Hill, anyway.

Nancy Pelosi is going to make a fine Speaker of the House. I hope fatboy Denny doesn't mistake her for his lunch and scarf her down.
