The stupid party

Meet the Senate's "new" leadership: Mitch McConnell and Trent Lott, who was elected whip by a margin of one vote. I guess one can always hope that the House leadership races will come out a little better, but I'm not holding my breath.

I swear to God, even a rat in a lab maze can eventually learn where the damn cheese is. Not these guys.

So, it'll be McConnell and Lott in the Senate and Boner and Blunt in the House: four white guys who golf and have bad hair and are untelegenic.

You can't tell me there are no chicks in the GOP who aren't leadership quality. Too bad Stephanie Herseth is a Dem. Well, there's always Mary Bono. And what about that guy Mikulski from Maryland--is he a Repub?

Too bad Allen will not be a senator anymore. He could have beaten Lott.

> Too bad Allen will not be a senator anymore.

What pisses me off is that the sonofabitch probably voted for Lott on his way out the door, and Lott only won by a single vote.

Sorry to disagree but the GOP senate was a helluva lot more effective when Trent was heading it than after Frist took over.

Lott knows how to count votes and to keep discipline - something that Frist never could do.

Who exactly would YOU have chosen, Barry? And remember, not every senator wants the extra work involved.

"Sorry to disagree but the GOP senate was a helluva lot more effective when Trent was heading it than after Frist took over.

If Lott is the best the GOP can do, it figures why they lose so big. With that approach we may see a complete collapse of the GOP in 2008.

Mal, I was afraid you might take issue with this. :-)

I'm well aware of Lott's legendary ability to strong-arm votes in the Senate. But if he's only herding votes to enact some new Medicare entitlement (as likely as anything else, given this leadership) then what's the point?

Between his addiction to pork, and his radioactive political status, I can't imagine that he's worth all the negatives.

I understand that conservatives must sometimes weigh principle against electability, but when both principle *and* image are both so heavily tilted against Lott, I can't imagine what the hell they're thinking.

To answer your question, I suppose I would have voted for Lamar Alexander, given that he was the runner-up.

So how's that Republican outreach to the black community going?

You're just NOW realizing the GOP is "the stupid party"?

Sorry. Couldn't resist. :-)

"So how's that Republican outreach to the black community going?

Oh, its going great. They even have George Allen introducing new terminology in campaign stops, to attract minority voters.

A few things here.

The #2 position in the senate is the equivalent to the house whip. Lott does that particularly well. Is it wrong to choose someone for a position which he excels?

As to the 'radioactivity', that's just MSM BS that liberals love and some conservatives fall for. Take a close look at Lott's record and find me, unlike the newly named president pro-tem Robert Byrd, evidence of racism.

It isn't there.

"So how's that Republican outreach to the black community going?" [Jill]

Wow, an email from jail! I assume that Bush finally had you arrested, didn't he? I mean, you have been declaring that this would happen for...how many years now?

The answer is not so good. Ken Blackwell, Michael Steele and Lynn Swann all were defeated. That's three.

You had a good man, Harold Ford, lose.

3-1.

Do the math, Jill.

"You're just NOW realizing the GOP is "the stupid party"?" [Tracy]

So how's it going with "Maybe Later" Murtha, Tracy?

Or Alcee Hastings, only the 3rd federal judge to ever be impeached and tossed from the bench? It's Pelosi's desire to settle a score with Jane Harmon by putting this corrupt perjurer in charge of the intelligence commitee instead of Harmon, a good congresswoman. Try thinking 'glass houses' before making witty. comments next time.

Yeah, and Jim Webb will be clearing the way with his rifle calling for all the n******s to move along. Maybe he'll even get a few of his old military buddies to recreate that touching scene.

You people certainly either don't read or choose to ignore what is public record.

You all should work for the MSM as you have the prerequisites for success in that area - selective memory.

Hey Mal,
You should stop listening to Sean Hannity that much. It is not cool any more. Nobody takes him seriously any longer, but you repeat exactly his talking points. Oh, and by the way, information from the MSM is far more reliable than stations like Pravda or Fox News. Ciao.

> Jill: So how's that Republican outreach to the black community going?

Fine. How's the outreach to former Abscam co-conspirators going? Got that swamp drained yet?

> Tracy: You're just NOW realizing the GOP is "the stupid party"

No, it's been painfully clear for some time now, alas.

> Mal: Is it wrong to choose someone for a position which he excels?

I think so. If Republicans ever want to regain the majority, anyway. You can argue the fairness of it if you want, but the reality is that Trent Lott is the public face of everything wrong with the GOP.

Now I know this leadership role is a thankless job and not everyone wants it. But it's also a high-profile job, and senators have big egos. I can't believe that among 49 Republican senators, there was no suitable candidate who could have been persuaded to take the job.

Forget Lott and political appointments. This election was all about the Middle East. However, Iraq is a diversion. As the army attacks Iraq, the US gov't erodes rights at home by suspending habeas corpus, stealing private lands, banning books like "America Deceived" from Amazon, rigging elections, conducting warrantless wiretaps and starting 2 illegal wars based on lies. Soon, another US false-flag operation will occur (sinking of an Aircraft Carrier) and the US will invade Iran, (on behalf of Israel).

All Repugs are now irrelevant except one: The Chimp in Chief.

Repugs set the new rules in congress: when you have the power, you don't share, you don't include, you don't debate or discuss -- now Repugs are out, Dems are in.
