Creative euphemism

Normally I think that to euphemize a phrase is to do damage to it, but I have to say, this kind of has a nice ring to it.

A charity production of The Vagina Monologues in Florida has changed its name after a woman complained it was offensive.

Atlantic Theatres in Atlantic Beach changed the title of the play to The Hoohaa Monologues, reports Metro.

It came after a complaint from a woman who had driven past the theatre with her niece who had asked her what a vagina was.

I'm not sure how it really helps this woman's dilemma with her niece, but I kinda like it better that way. Less clinical.

Meanwhile, here's a shoutout to my favorite bartender, Michelle, who's doing The Hoohaa Monologues here in Hoboken on Valentine's Day. Break a leg, Michelle.

I always thought vagina was a euphemism for hoohaa. Live and learn.

I wonder what they call titty bars in Atlantic Beach.

I guess they decided not to go with "The Snatch Monologues". That would have been my first choice as an alternative.

What kind of society do we live in where "vagina" is considered a dirty word?

In any event, why is "hoohaa" any better? I'm guessing the neice would have the same question as before, except now the Aunt would have to explain that "hoohaa" is another word for "vagina", and she's back to square one.

You know, a vagina is part of a girl's body, one that she uses every day (sort of), no matter how much the Aunt may wish otherwise.

The completely accurate title would be "The Cunt Monologues".

"The completely accurate title would be..." (BH)

No, I think hoohaa is really right on, just as a play entitled "The Penis Monologues" would have to be referred to as "The thing-a-ma-jig Monologues."

It's easier on the kiddies that way.

ugh, i hate the word vagina, yet i love them so.

Why not call this blog "The Johnson Monologues"?
